But there are some aspects I suggest we as interims become aware of..<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Recognising the scenario and adjusting the approach e.g.\n<ol>\n<li>turnaround or<\/li>\n<li>realignment<\/li>\n<li>checking the brief \u2013 there is actually some change to do (vs. gap \/ more of the same management)\n<ol>\n<li>What do they wish to different?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 i.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (is there any change aspect to the role that defines the end point \u2013 i.e. is it an interim or temporary gap role)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What does that look like?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 i.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 checks values (not what are the issues \u2013 goes nowhere)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Will they give us the space brief to do so?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 i.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Micro management we find is a killer of an interim assignments success<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>And reading the culture.\n<ol>\n<li>What makes the business successful?<\/li>\n<li>How does it work?<\/li>\n<li>What are the organisation values?<\/li>\n<li>How are decisions made?<\/li>\n<li>What does success look like?<\/li>\n<li>Etc.<\/li>\n<li>CPD \u2013 there are aspects of CPD\u00a0(a focus of the\u00a0icebreaker team) about that supports interims in reading these situations better \u2013 which is more about &#8220;us changing&#8221; rather\u00a0&#8220;than them&#8221; \u2013 so independent of scenario anyway.<\/li>\n<li>Technically the way our brains work means that if a scenario is familiar we will not think \u2013 our subconscious processes it automatically \u2013 so out of sector input is vital to effect the difference\n<ol>\n<li>Infantile public sector risk adverse procurement processes \u2013 actually therefore deliver quite the opposite \u2013 embed and accept the existing risks in the current scenario.<\/li>\n<li>We have found the same issues and inefficiency in banks in 2006 \u2013 and look what happened!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These can apply equally in the public or private sector. And you can find pockets of both traits.<\/p>\n<p>Variety of experience is what enables the interim to develop their capability, and engage and be useful within days because we have seen so many different scenarios.
